Venom 3, the forthcoming American superhero flick spotlighting the Marvel Comics character Venom, is currently in the works under the banner of Columbia Pictures in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment. Set to hit screens as the sixth installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, it continues the narrative from the previous Venom installments, namely Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021). The movie, helmed by Kelly Marcel, who co-produces and directs, unfolds from a storyline crafted alongside Tom Hardy, reprising his dual roles as Eddie Brock and Venom while also donning the hat of a producer.
Tom Hardy first hinted at his involvement in a third Venom venture in August 2018, with the wheels of development officially turning post the release of the second film in December 2021. By June 2022, Marcel and Hardy were deep into scripting, with Marcel slated to step into the director’s chair, marking her debut in feature film direction, come October of the same year. Filming commenced in Spain in late June 2023 but faced a setback the subsequent month due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Production resumed in November post the strike’s resolution, with additional filming anticipated in London.
Mark your calendars, as Venom 3 is slated for a theatrical release in the United States on November 8, 2024.

Development,
In August 2018, Tom Hardy announced his commitment to star in three Venom films. By September 2021, Hardy mentioned the ongoing development of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) in future projects, while also expressing interest in potential crossovers with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Director of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), Andy Serkis, indicated his willingness to helm another Venom installment, emphasizing the untapped potential in further exploring the character’s storyline, including ventures into the Ravencroft Institute and the introduction of new adversaries.
In October, Tom Holland hinted at the possibility of reprising his MCU role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in future Venom sequels, following his cameo appearance in Let There Be Carnage via footage from Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Producer Amy Pascal echoed this sentiment in December, confirming that preliminary discussions were underway for Venom 3.
The official confirmation of Venom 3’s development came from Sony Pictures during CinemaCon in April 2022. In June of the same year, it was revealed that Kelly Marcel, who had previously contributed to the screenplay of the Venom franchise, was penning the script alongside Hardy. Marcel was also slated to make her directorial debut with the film, alongside serving as a producer alongside industry heavyweights such as Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Hutch Parker, and Tom Hardy himself.
The project boasted a substantial budget, with Hardy set to receive $20 million for his involvement. Production companies such as Arad Productions, Matt Tolmach Productions, Pascal Pictures, Hutch Parker Entertainment, Hardy, Son & Baker, and Columbia Pictures were all onboard, in collaboration with Marvel Entertainment.
Despite Serkis expressing interest in returning, he cited commitments to another project as his reason for not being able to direct Venom 3, highlighting his prior engagement with Animal Farm, which he had previously delayed to work on Let There Be Carnage.
- Pre-production,
Hardy revealed in February 2023 that pre-production work had begun.[15] Juno Temple entered negotiations to join the cast in an undisclosed “lead role” in April.[3] The next month, filming was expected to begin in June in London,[16][17] and Chiwetel Ejiofor joined the cast along with Temple.[2] In June, the film was set for release in October 2024.
Filming:
Principal photography kicked off on June 26, 2023, commencing in Los Mateos, Cartagena, Spain, and extending to the scenic Calblanque Regional Park. The shoot operated under the codename Orwell. Fabian Wagner, who previously contributed as an additional cinematographer on Let There Be Carnage, assumed the role of cinematographer for this installment.
However, production encountered a setback when the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike commenced in mid-July 2023, prompting a temporary suspension of filming. Despite this delay, initial plans slated the film for release on July 12, 2024.
Following the resolution of the actors’ strike in early November 2023, Sony opted to push back the release date to November 8, 2024, effectively occupying the slot initially reserved for an untitled Marvel film in November 2024. As production geared up for resumption, filming recommenced on November 16, with further shooting anticipated in London.
Release:
Venom 3 is set to hit theaters in the United States on November 8, 2024. Initially, it was anticipated for an October 2024 release, with a prior scheduled date of July 12, 2024.
In April 2021, Sony inked agreements with Netflix and Disney for the rights to their film slate spanning from 2022 to 2026. These deals cover both theatrical and home media distribution windows. Netflix secured exclusive “pay 1 window” streaming rights, typically spanning 18 months, encompassing future Venom installments post Venom: Let There Be Carnage. On the other hand, Disney acquired “pay 2 window” rights, enabling streaming on Disney+ and Hulu platforms, as well as airing on Disney’s linear television networks.
